The German class BR218 diesel locomotive is a diesel hydraulic locomotive with 2.500 - 2.800 hp. It has been built from 1970-79. Although many of these diesel locomotives have been withdrawn in recent years, many BR 218 diesel locomotives can still be seen on various railroad lines all over Germany.
In this case in Schleswig-Holstein (northernmost federal state) at Itzehoe and Emshorn (north of Hamburg).

Finnish freight train 4059 from Kemira, Siilinjärvi, to Kokkola at Iisalmi station at 22.7.2007. Two non-rebuilt Dv12-class diesel locomotives (2528+2532) start main engines, and freight train 4059 is starting to roll to track 4's northern main signal. I'm sorry for bad quality, because i didn't have tripod when filming this video. (And filmed with pocket digital camera, not with my DV-camcorder, which i didn't have at that moment.) Those two locomotives, which are in the video, are rebuilt now.

The so-called "Taigatrommel" (Taiga Drum or Sergej) Diesel Locomotive M62 has an excellent 2-stroke diesel sound. It is Russian-built and was delivered to the Railways of the German Democratic Republic. Technical specifications at the end of the video clip.

GREAT DIESEL SOUND! The Ludmilla Diesel Locomotive (aka classes 230, 231, 232, 234) of the (former) East German Railways was built by the diesel locomotive works "October Revolution" in Woroschilowgrad/Soviet Union (today: Luhansk) in the 1970´s and 80´s.

This Diesel Locomotive class has a 16-cylinder turbocharged 4-stroke diesel engine (the legendary 5D49!) with chargecooler and 3000 HP, 6 axles and is designed for heavy freight and passenger trains. This Russian Diesel Locomotive has been in service in many former Eastern European countries.

The Diesel Locomotive has a nice sound, especially in the test facility at the end of the clip.

A tribute to the historic diesel train VT 601 (VT 11.5) of the Deutsche Bundesbahn (DB).

The train was used for the west german Trans Europ Express (TEE) in the 1950/1960s, later as an InterCity (IC) and a regular train.

At 4:45 and 7:48 you can see the VT 602 which had a gas turbine engine.

I used more than 120 different pictures and the tracks "Trans Europe Express", "Abzug" and "Metal on metal" of Kraftwerk's remix album "The Mix".

The Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe hauled by a rare, preseved(so they say), South African Railways Class 32-000,General Electric U18C1 High Hood Diesel Locomotive, Diaz Beach, Mossel Bay, Western Cape, South Africa.

The Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe is usually hauled by Steam Locomotives but the use of steam is not always possible due to weather conditions so Class 32-000 Diesel Locomotives are used instead.

Only 3 Class 32-000 Diesel Locomotives survive today: #32-029, #32-042 and #32-047.
