This is an unedited video shot in 1080p of the AT&SF Steam Locomotive 3751 doing a high speed pass. It was taken on May 2, 2010, at the Carlsbad, CA, Poinsettia Station. My six year old son is with me and you can hear me in the video telling him to keep low as the train is about to steam through the station at 60mph. My wife and daughter are on board in the full dome car (4th car from the end). We rode the train that day from Downtown San Diego to Oceanside, California. A Canon 7D with a Canon EF-S 10-22mm lens was used to take the video.

This goes to show that a little engine can make a lot of noise! It is an ALCO built B-4 0-6-0 switch engine, built in August 1920, equipped with power reverse, Walschaert valve motion, piston valves, superheaters, and a 5000 gallon tender. It has two whistles, the larger one is a 6 chime and the smaller one is a 3 chime. The locomotive weighs 150000 pounds, and it has a tractive effort of 31200 pounds. It was built to operate at a pressure of 180 pounds per square inch and it continues to operate at that pressure today. WMSTR acquired the engine and modified it slightly; the superheaters were removed, and the footboard on the front was replaced with a boilertube "cow catcher". It also got a...

N&W 1218 slips slightly before it exits the Bramwell tunnel on the ex-N&W Pokey Division. Steam and smoke fills the air as she pokes out into the daylight. Smoke will continue the entire time the train exit, and continues for 15 minutes after the train is gone. Thanks to NS, this will NEVER be repeated with this locomotive again. Thanks for watching. In May 2003 I had the good fortune of being invited on a 3 day shakedown cruise from Calgary to the Rockies and back onboard the Canadian Pacific Hudson steam locomotive #2816 in advance of a major across Canada tour for the locomotive. CPR's #2816 is a class H1b Hudson-type 4-6-4 locomotive built by Montreal Locomotive Works in December 1930. She is now called the Empress and is rated at 4700 horsepower at 55 miles per hour. During her long working life from 1930 till 1960 on CP's mainlines between Toronto and Quebec City as well as originally East/West between Calgary, Winnipeg and Fort William (Thunder Bay) she regularly operated at speeds in excess of 70 miles per hour. During my trip I...
